Censor Board refuses certificate to film Lipstick Under My Burkha

Film Lipstick Under My Burkha is an woman oriented film and it deals with secret lives of four women. India’s film censors have declined to certify film Lipstick Under My Burkha on the ground that the film contains sexual scenes and abusive words, among other things.

Konkona Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak Shah are playing two important characters in the film. Alankrita Shrivastava is the director of this film.

A copy of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) letter to the film’s producer Prakash Jha states: “The story is lady oriented, their fantasy about life. There are continuous sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, hence film refused.”

Film Lipstick Under My Burkha will be screened at the Glasgow Film Festival and the director of the film is presently at Glasgow. The director Alankrita Shrivastava said “I am not defeated, disheartened or disillusioned by the CBFC’s refusal to certify ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha.’ I am more determined than ever before to ensure that ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ can be watched by Indian audiences.”

Film Lipstick Under My Burkha won the Spirit of Asia Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality at the Mumbai Film Festival.

Bengali film Kadambari – Review Box Office Report Cast and Crew of the film

Param and Konkona in Kadambari
Bengali film Kadambari is the most awaited movie of this year. The film is based on a very sensitive issue. Was the relationship between Rabindranath and Kadambari Devi was a platonic one?

Kadambari Devi was wife of Jyotirindranath Tagore – elder brother of Rabindranath Tagore. Relationship between Kadambari Devi and Rabindranath Tagore still remains a topic of discussion for generations. Rabindranath Tagore never denied that he had a unique relationship with his sister– in– law. Rabindranath used to call her ‘Notun Bouthan’.

The relationship between Rabindranath Tagore and his ‘Notun Bouthan’ is always treated as a sensitive issue. Kadambari Devi committed suicide just four months after Rabindranath Tagore's marriage. Director of the film Kadambari, Suman Ghosh feels: "I was not scared to deal with such a sensitive subject. What I felt instead was a huge sense of responsibility. For the first time in the history of Bengali cinema, this subject has been adapted for screen.A lot about this incident has so far remained under the carpet, and I thought the carpet needs to be lifted."

Kadambari Devi was married to Jyotirindranath Tagore when she was only 9 years old. At that time Rabindranath Tagore was lonely in the ‘Thakur Bari’ and the same case was with Kadambari Devi. It took no time to bond the two children together as play mate. After the death of Rabindranath Tagore's mother, the poet started getting motherly affection from Kadambari Devi. Finally the relationship turned into a romantic relationship. Director Suman Ghosh has done research work on the relationship and said "Such was the depth of Kadambari's influence on Rabindranath that at the age of 70, he confessed to Nandalal Bose that many of his paintings of a woman's face were drawn keeping Kadambari Devi in mind."

Story: Suman Ghosh
Screenplay: Suman Ghosh

Audiences are eagerly waiting for the film. We have to keep in our mind that Bengalis are very conservative regarding Rabindranath Tagore. All the truth in the relationship between Rabindranath and Kadambari Devi may not be accepted by them.

Singer Srikanta Acharya is making his debut in this film. Srikanta is a good singer and the aristocracy in his get up is 100% matching with the character. Best of luck for Srikanta.

Rituparna Sengupta Out - Konkona Sen Sharma In From Bengali Movie Shesher Kobita

Suman Mukhopadhyay is making a new Bengali movie based on Shesher Kobita of Rabindranath Tagore. Kolkona Sen Sengupta will be Labanya in the movie which was supposed to be done by Rituparna Sengupta. What actually happened? Why Rituparna Sengupta is out from Shesher Kobita?
Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta is upset on the decision of director Suman Mukhopadhyay's decision to cast Konkona Sen Sharma as Labanya in his forthcoming Bengali movie Shesher Kobita. Initially it was decided that Rituparna will play as Labanya in Shesher Kobita.
Since the release of Suman Mukhopadhyay's latest Bengali movie ‘Mahanagar@Kolkata, Suman and Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta were in mutual understanding that Rituparna Sengupta will be Labanya in Suman’s next Bengali movie Shesher Kobita. Initially Indraneil Sengupta was chosen as Amit Ray in Shesher Kobita. Script of the upcoming Bengali movie Shesher Kobita is ready and Rituparna Sengupta even received one copy from Suman Mukhopadhyay.  Although no contract was signed by Rituparna, it was a mutual understanding between the director and actress that Rituparna will be Labanya in Shesher Kobita. They even discussed about the Bengali movie Shesher Kobita on number of occasions regarding the other members of the cast. The shooting of Bengali movie Shesher Kobita is supposed to start from mid-February.
Rituparna Sengupta was herself very interested about the movie for getting chance to do a critical role like Labanya in Shesher Kobita.
In recent developments, Rahul Bose is considered as Amit Ray and Konkona Sen Sharma will be Labanya in Bengali movie Shesher Kobita. Rituparna Sengupta noticed the new development from an interview of Suman published in news paper.
Actress Rituparna Sengupta has nothing against Konkona Sen Sharma but she is upset with Suman as the director did not informed her that Konkona will be Labanya in Shesher Kobita. Suman Mukhopadhyay tried to talk with Rituparna Sengupta over the phone to explain the matter but Rituparna is not willing to hear anything from Suman on this matter.

Shesher Kobita is a great creation of Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore. Till now Labanya and Amit Ray roles are confirmed but the other cast like Ketty Mitra and ‘masima’ are yet to be decided. Ketty Mitra is also a critical character in Shesher Kobita and let’s look forward to see who will be Ketty Mitra in Suman Mukhopadhyay’s Shesher Kobita.
