Admission Test Details

B.A. Admission Test Details 2016-2017


1.     English Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 40 (1hour 30 minutes)
b.     Selection will be done purely on the basis of marks obtained in the admission test.
c.     The admission test will have two parts : written examination (40 marks) and viva-voce (10 marks).
d.     The written examination will be of 90 minutes duration. It will have two parts : MCQ (10 Multiple Choice Questions of 2 marks each = 20 marks) and Essay (20 marks).
e.     There will be negative marking in the MCQ round. The following marking pattern will be followed in the MCQ round : +2 for correct answers and -1 for wrong answers.
f.      The essays of only those candidates who obtain 10 or above in the MCQ round will be evaluated.
g.     Only those candidates who obtain 10 or above in essay will be called for viva-voce.
h.     Final merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the essay and viva-voce.
i.      Total seats in the subject = 10 (approximately)
2.     Bengali Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hours 30 mts).
b.     Candidates will be tested in simple Bengali composition – essay writing, amplification and substance writing.
c.     There will be an interview of the candidates selected only on the basis of the written test.
d.     Final selection will be done on the basis of marks obtained in the -
Written Test (50) + Viva Voce (10) = 60 marks.
e.     Total seats in the subject = 10 (approximately).
3.     Sanskrit Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hour 30 mts)
b.     Candidates will be tested in simple translation from Bengali / English to Sanskrit; basic Sanskrit grammar and common questions on Sanskrit literature.
c.     There will be an interview of the candidates selected only on the basis of the written test.
d.     Final selection will be done on the basis of marks obtained in the -
Written Test (50) + Viva Voce (10) = 60 marks.
e.     Total seats in the subject = 10 (approximately)
4.     History Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 20 (45 mts).
b.     Written Examination :
i) Essay (400 words) [in English or Bengali] : 20
c.     Candidates will be primarily selected on the basis of a total marks of 40 (written test 20 + marks secured in HS History reduced to (20).
d.     Final selection will be done on the basis of marks obtained in the -
Written Test (20) + marks secured in HS History reduced to (20) + Viva Voce (10) = 50 marks.
e.     Total seats in the subject = 10 (approximately)
5.     Political Science
a.     Full marks for the written test : 20 (45 mts).
b.     Essay : 20 marks. It can be written in English / Bengali.
c.     Candidates will be finally selected after the viva voce to be held on the same day just after the written test. Viva voce marks 10.
d.     Final selection will be done on the basis of marks obtained in the -
Written Test (20) + Viva Voce (10) = 30 marks.
e.     Total seats in the subject = 10 (approximately)
6.     Philosophy
a.     Full marks for the test : 20 (45 mts).
b.     Essay : 20 marks. It can be written in English / Bengali.
c.     Candidates will be finally selected after the viva voce to be held on the same day just after the written test. Viva voce marks 10.
d.     Final selection will be done on the basis of marks obtained in the -
Written Test (20) + Viva Voce (10) = 30 marks.
e.     Total seats in the subject = 10 (approximately).


B.Sc. Admission Test Details 2016-2017


1.     Physics Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hour 30 minutes)
b.     There shall be 25 MCQ questions of 2 marks each covering the whole of H.S [XI & XII] Course and majority of these will be problem-oriented. Appreciable number of questions will be set from XI syllabus also. Each wrong answer will result in (-1).
c.     The final selection will be done on the basis of the marks secured by the student in thewritten test. An interview / counseling will be conducted for these students.
d.     Final selection will be done on the basis of marks obtained in the -
Written Test (50) + Viva Voce (10) = 60 marks.
e.     Total seats in the subject = 22 (approximately)
2.     Chemistry Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hours 30 minutes).
b.     There shall be 25 MCQ type questions of 2 mark each covering the syllabus taught both in class XI and XII standards. There will be no negative marking.
c.     Candidates have to select the correct choice.
d.     A merit list will be prepared on this basis : 50 (admission test) + 25 (from aggregate) + 25 (from H.S. Chemistry marks) = 100. The students of this merit list will have to appear in a viva voce as mentioned below. The students who will remain absent in the viva will be summarily rejected.
e.     The final selection will be done after adding the viva voce marks (10) to the marks secured as per the details mentioned above.
f.      Total seats in the subject = 24 (approximately).
3.     Mathematics Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hour 30 minutes)
b.     There shall be 25 MCQ type questions covering the syllabus taught both in class XI and XII standards, each carrying 2 marks. For each wrong answer, -1 will be awarded.
c.     Candidates have to select the correct choice.
d.     A merit list will be prepared on the basis of : 50 (admission test) + 50 (reduced from H.S. Mathematics) = 100. The students of this merit list will have to appear in a viva voce as mentioned below. The students who will remain absent in the viva will be summarily rejected.
e.     The final selection will be done after adding the viva voce marks (25) to the marks secured as per the details mentioned above.
f.      Total seats in the subject = 12 (approximately)
4.     Microbiology Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hour).
b.     There shall be two types of questions : (a) 50 MCQ each of 1 marks. These questions will cover the entire syllabus taught in class XII and some portions of class XI as mentioned herewith : Diversity in the Living World : Biological Classification, Cell structure and function, Respiration, Photosynthesis, Digestion and Absorption, Body Fluid (Blood and Lymph).
c.     Negative Marking - at the rate of 0.5 for each wrong answer.
d.     Candidates have to select the correct choice.
e.     A preliminary merit list will be prepared on this basis : 50 (admission test) + 20 (reduced from H.S. Chemistry marks) + 20 (reduced from H.S. Biology) = 90. The students of this merit list will have to appear in a viva voce as mentioned below. The students who will remain absent in the viva will be summarily rejected.
f.      The final selection will be done after adding the viva voce marks (10) to the marks secured as per the details mentioned above.
g.     Total seats in the subject = 12 (approximately)
5.     Computer Science Science Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hour).
b.     There shall be 25 MCQ questions of 2 marks each, covering Mathematics syllabus taught up to XII standard. Each wrong answer will result in (-1). Calculator is not allowed. Rough work should be done in the limited space provided.
c.     Candidates have to select the correct choice.
d.     There will be an interview of the candidates preliminarily selected only on the basis of the written test. The students of this merit list will have to appear in a viva voce as mentioned below. The students who will remain absent in the viva will be summarily rejected.
e.     The final selection will be done on the basis of the marks secured in the written test (50) + viva voce (10) = 60.
f.      Total seats in the subject = 12 (approximately)
6.     Industrial Chemistry Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1 hour).
b.     There shall be 25 MCQ type questions each carrying 2 marks covering Chemistry syllabus taught both in class XI and XII standards. Each wrong answer will result in (-1). Rough work should be done in the limited space provided.
c.     Candidates have to select the correct choice.
d.     There will be an interview of the candidates preliminarily selected only on the basis of the written test. The students of this merit list will have to appear in a viva voce as mentioned below. The students who will remain absent in the viva will be summarily rejected.
e.     The final selection will be done on the basis of the marks secured in the written test (50) + viva voce (10) = 60.
f.      Total seats in the subject = 12 (approximately).
7.     Economics Honours
a.     Full marks for the written test : 50 (1hour 30 minutes).
b.     Candidates will be tested in [Higher Secondary] Mathematics (30) and English (essay writing) (20) = 50 marks.
c.     A preliminary merit list will be prepared on this basis : 50 (admission test) + 50 (reduced from H.S. aggregate) = 100. The students of this merit list will have to appear in a viva voce as mentioned below. The students who will remain absent in the viva will be summarily rejected.
d.     The final selection will be done on the following basis : 50 (admission test) + 50 (reduced from H.S. aggregate)+ Viva voce (25) = 125.
e.     Total seats in the subject = 10 (approximately).
