Few words about Acharya Girish Chandra Bose College
In the year 1968 the two separate institutions, Birla College of Science and Birla College of Education were constructed which in 1869 was jointly known as Birla College of Science & Education. Later in 1987 it was named as Acharya Girish Chandra College. The college was affiliated to Honours courses by the University of Calcutta w.e.f 1970 session. Son of late Acharya Girish Chandra Bose, late Prashanta Kumar Bose was the principal i.e., the in-charge of the newly created commerce department. In 1981 the college flourished as an evening college in a school building in the academic session 1982-1983. The college was changed into a fully trained co-educational day college for imparting further education so as to provide various opportunities to the students of all sectioned of the society. With due respect to late Acharya Girish Chandra Bose the Management of Bangabasi College of Commerce jointly agreed to change the name of the college to “Acharya Girish Chandra Bose College”.

The college offers a number of degrees for undergraduates both in honours courses and general degree courses which includes- (a) Bachelor of Arts in English, Bengali, Sanskrit, History, Political Science, Philosophy and Economics (b) Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Accounting, Direct & indirect Taxation, Cost & management Accounting, Indian Financial system & Financial Marketing and Operations (c) Bachelor of Science in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics , Economics, Zoology, Botany, Anthropology, Computer Science and Geography. It also provides computer training in collaboration with Webel Informatics Limited.
Facilities available in Acharya Girish Chandra Bose College
The college has established Career Counseling Cell in 2004 to provide job opportunities and has also widens the outlook of the students by providing information about higher studies. Besides maintaining a favourable academic environment, it promotes extra-curricular activities to the students. The Alumni Association is set up for performing activities like Blood Grouping, Health Checkup, Seminars, and Awareness Programs etc. The democratically elected student union serves as a constructive role in development of academic environment, extra-curricular activities, publishing college magazines, annual programs and sports, debates etc. Students are allowed to express their views, suggestions and objections in a Drop Box which is checked regularly. Tuition fee concessions are allowed to the students belonging to SC, ST, Minority and physically handicapped group and also to poor students. Classrooms are big enough with arrangements of various indoor games. Students are given computer training and the college canteen serves them food of different tastes at reasonable rates.
