Birla Mandir in Kolkata of West Bengal

Birla Mandir is a Hindu temple in Kolkata built by the industrialist Birla family of India.  The temple has statues of deities Lord Krishna and Radha. The temple remains openfor visitors from 5.30 A.M. to 11.00 A.M. and in the evening from 4.30 P.M. to 9.00 P.M. There is no entry fee for visitors. During the Hindu festival Janmashtami, visitors from different parts of West Bengal come to the Birla Mandir.


It took 26 years to complete the Birla Mandir. In 1970, the construction job was started and in 1996 the construction job was completed.  In the main temple there are statues of deities Lord Krishna and Radha.


The left side temple top houses goddess Durga and the left side temple top houses God Shiva.  Birla Mandir is built of white marbles.  Birla Mandir has been designed on the pattern of Lingaraj Temple of Bhubaneswar. Episodes from holy Bhagavad Gita have been pictorially depicted through stone engravings. There are strict code of conducts to be followed by visitors in the Birla Mandir. Visitors can not carry bags, mobiles or cameras with them inside the temple premises.

Birla Mandir is located near Gariahat. One can reach Birla Mandir by bus and taxi from any location of Kolkata.


Distance between Howrah station and Birla Mandir is 16.25 Km and present taxi fare from Howrah railway station to Birla Mandir is Rs. 165 and Mega Cabs fare from Howrah to Birla Mandir is Rs. 244


Distance between Sealdah station and Birla Mandir is 6.20 Km and present taxi fare from Sealdah railway station to Birla Mandir is Rs. 64 and Mega Cabs fare from Sealdah to Birla Mandir is Rs. 93
