The Princep Ghat was built dedicating to James Princep, the honourable Secretary of the Hallowed Asiatic Society. Along with beautiful buildings, well laid roads, British administration had built the magnificent Ghat at the river-side for beautification of the city. Bathing ceremonies are conducted in Princep Ghat. Idols immersions are made in the river during Hindu festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja and so on.

One can see people gathering in the ghat, taking bath and performing the religious rituals which were followed by their forefathers. In this modern age, the city has all amenities for enjoyment, people here celebrate New Years’ Eve and Christmas in European style but our own rituals are also observed here with great respect.
