Tarakeswar is a renowned place of pilgrimage in Hooghly district in West Bengal. Famous Taraknath temple is located here where thousands of tourists come on every Monday of Sravana month (mid of July to mid of August).

The main attraction of Tarakeswar is the Taraknath temple. In front of the temple there is a ‘Nat Mandir’ and the near the Taraknath temple, there are shrines of Kali and Lakshmi-Narayan. Dudhpukur is located at the north of the Taraknath Shiva temple. It is believed that a dip in the tank fulfils the prayers of devotees.
Sravana month of Bengali calendar attracts thousands of pilgrims, specially on Mondays. During 'Shivaratri' and ‘Gajan’ number of tourists increases in Tarakeswar.

Tarakeswar is connected with other parts of West Bengal through railway line. Tarakeswar Railway station is connected with Sheoraphully station. Sheoraphully is on the Howrah–Burdwan main line. Recently Tarakeswar Railway Station is Declared as a Multi Functional Station.
State buses are available from all neighboring towns to reach Tarakeswar. Private buses also operate from Kamarpukur, Kolkata and Howrah.
