Mukutmonipur is a small town in Bankura district of West Bengal near the Jharkhand boarder. It is located at the confluence of two rivers, Kangsabati and Kumari. Mukutmonipur is a major tourist attractions place of Bankura district. The name ‘Mukutmonipur’ itself has an attraction. This place is famous for its scenic beauty. Surrounded with green forests, Mukutmonipur has a natural beauty. The second biggest earth dam is located at Mukutmonipur. In 1956 this water dam reservoir was planned by the then Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy with a vision of providing irrigation facilities of agricultural lands.
How to reach Mukutmonipur-transport services
Train service is available from Howrah to Bankura and from Bankura, buses are available for Mukutmonipur. Buses from Bankura to Mukutmonipur take nearly 2 hrs while train reaches from Howrah to Bankura in approximately four and half hours. Train service is not so frequent to Bankura till now although new projects are being taken by Union Railway Ministry to connect Bankura with other parts of the state to promote tourism business of the state.
Bus services to Bankura are very frequent. Direct buses from Kolkata to Mukutmonipur are available. From Durgapur and Burdwan buses for Bankura is available frequently. Mainly private buses ply between Bankura and other places although many state transport buses are also available.
What to visit at Mukutmonipur
Sunset and moonlit night around the dam at Mukutmonipur is worth seeing. There is a deer park near the reservoir. Bangopalpur Reserve forest is located within 2 kms from the Kansabati dam which is a tourist attractions place for many species of flora and fauna. Another place of attraction is the ancient town of Ambikanagar. This town was once a place of pilgrimage for Jains. Ambikanagar is located 4 kms away from the Kansabati dam.
A drive over the dam and boat ride in the lake would be a good experience.

Spot booking of the above hotels and tourist lodges can done but it is better to complete the booking job before start of the journey as during tourist season room availability may be a problem.
