Pranab Mukherjee is the frontrunner in the race of 13thPresident election in India. Bengalis can hope that this time a Bengali will become the President of India.
Just like monsoon climate, the news on 13th President election in India is changing rapidly. Few days back it was assumed that union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee is out of the race for main contenders for the post of Indian President. The situation has changed. Pranab Mukherjee is very much in the race and presently he is supposed to be at the top in the list of probable names for 13th President of India.
Uptill now Congress is seriously considering two names, Pranab Mukherjee and Vice-President Hamid Ansari. The other factors which are to be considered are Samajwadi Party and the Trinamul Congress. Sonia Gandhi told reporters that no candidate is finalised yet.
There are many speculations regarding why Pranab Mukherjee is supposed to become the 13th President of India. It is assumed that BJP would be happy if they find Pranab Mukherjee, the main trouble-shooter of Congress party is out of active politics. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee may support Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature due to Bengali sentiment. People of West Bengal irrespective of political parties want to see a Bengali in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
