Although main products of handlooms are sarees but our handloom weavers are weaving varieties of products like Scarves, stoles, dress material, Shirting, furnishing fabrics, bed sheet, Napkin, Jute blended furnishings, Bed cover, Bed Sheet etc.
West Bengal handloom weavers are famous for their skill and innovative attitudes. Their products are world famous. The handloom weavers in West Bengal are mostly from weaver families. In case of super quality sarees, handloom products are always better than power loom sarees still the handloom industry in our state is passing through crisis. Many handloom weavers are thinking to shift to another profession. They are not satisfied with the return of their labour. Handloom industry is more or less controlled by mahazans who lend money to the weavers at high rate and take their products in considerably low rate. Presently state government is trying hard so that the previous glory of handloom industry comes back. The yarn is supplied to the cooperatives and weavers through Tantuja and Tantusree
