Upto 2006, Krishnanagar had two Bidhan Sabha constituencies. One was Krishnagar East and the other Krishnagar West. This is new Bidhan Sabha constituency for the assembly poll 2011.
In 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal, Ujjal Biswas of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest rival Mahadeb Sarkar of Trinamool Congress. Ujjal Biswas got 91,738 votes and Mahadeb Sarkar got 82,433 votes.
In 2016 assembly elections in West Bengal, Ujjal Biswas of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest rival Meghlal Sheikh of CPI (M). Ujjal Biswas got 80,711 votes and Meghlal Sheikh got 67,897 votes.
In 2011 assembly elections in West Bengal, Ujjal Biswas of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest rival Rama Biswas of CPI (M). Ujjal Biswas got 71,392 votes and Rama Biswas got 60,364 votes.
