Total Marks and Merit List again back in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Results in West Bengal

Today a decision has been taken by education department of West Bengal that total marks obtained by a student will be shown in the result and merit list of students will be published as before. This rule is applicable for both Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examination in West Bengal and it will be effected from 2012.

The system of announcing Madhyamik and Higher Secondary merit list was officially abolished in 2005. The logic behind such abolition was that the school examinations will be student-friendly and stress-free.  There was number of debates on that issue whether the merit list would be published or not. Ultimately state government has taken a decision that merit lists for both Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examination will be published from 2012 and in the result sheet of students, total marks secured by a student will be printed.
