Latest Developments in Hudhud

 

 12 October 2014 - 12.00 noon: Landfall of Cyclone Hudhud occured at 11.30 am at north of Vizag. Wind speed reached 205 kmph. Visakhapatnam is under the grip of Hudhud. The strong winds and heavy rains led to large-scale disruption of power lines in three coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Death of two is recorded.

Next 5-6 hours is going to be most crucial. Hudhud will maintain its intensity for up to six hours after landfall and then it will gradually weakening into a cyclonic storm during it's passage through southern interior Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Met said heavy rain fall will be for next 48 hours in west and east Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts of Andhra and Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi and Phulbani in Odisha. South Chhattisgarh and north Telangana will also receive rain.

12 October 2014 - 10.40 am: Cyclone Hudhud is now 50 kms away from Visakhapatnam and the landfall will be within 1 hour. Present wind speed is nearly 100 kmph and it will reach 170-180 kmph during landfall. The speed may reach up to 190 kmph at some places. Heavy rainfall has started in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

11 October 2014: Cyclone Hudhud will hit Visakhapatnam tomorrow afternoonCyclone Hudhud will have surface wind speed of 160-170 kmph. As per bulletin of The Indian Meteorological Department at 2.30 pm, Hudhud is around 260 km southeast of
Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and around 360 km south-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha.
Cyclone Hudhud is moving towards Andhra Pradesh and Odisha at a speed of 10 kmph and is expected to make landfall on Sunday at a speed of 170-180km/hour. The MeT department has announced that the cyclone is going to be very severe. Coastal areas experiencing bad weather and rain has started in South Bengal.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a meeting today to checkthe preparations for the storm. Indian Railways have cancelled 40 trains between Bhubhaneswar-Vishakapatnam and 40 more trains are diverted.
