A Bengali marriage includes
many rituals and it continues for several days. The wedding ceremony starts
with Turmeric ceremony, Gaye Holud and normally the Wedding ceremony is held
at night or mid night. At the end of marriage the vidaai ceremony is held. The
bride makes an offering of rice called 'Kanakanjali' to her mother.
and it symbolizes the end of celebrations for the bride's family.
In groom's family the
celebration starts when the bride reaches there
with 'Bouboron'. This day is also known as "Kaalratri," and on
it the bride and groom are not allowed to even see each other.
The second day of the
bride at her new home is celebrated as Bou Bhaat as on this day, she serves
Rice with Ghee to all her in-laws at lunch. The evening is celebrated as a
reception party. At night Phul Shojja – the bride and groom will sleep together
for the first time. This is the end of rituals in groom’s house.
Another ritual - Oshto
Mongola is celebrated at bride’s home on the 8th day of her
marriage.
