ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Minimum marks for admission to the unreserved seats in all M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. course of studies under Faculty Councils of Science & Arts is 50% at the Honours level in the concerned/relevant subject as regular course of studies. For candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC-A/ OBC-B/ DA/ SP categories, eligibility is minimum of 45% marks in honours in the concerned/relevant subject.
No candidate having obtained graduation/ post graduate degree from an Open University or through Distance Education Mode is eligible to apply for admission to any courses of post graduate studies.
Eligibility criteria for admission to PG Course of Studies in different multidisciplinary such as Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Geospatial
Sciences, Statistics, Women’s Studies, MLIS, Mass Communication, MBA, MBA
(Tourism Management), MBA (Human Resource) and M.Ed. (Fresher), LL.M., M.P.Ed., M.A. in Hindusthani Classical Vocal Music and M.A. in Rabindra Sangeet, are given below: -
1.Environmental Sciences: Science graduates (10+2+3) having 50% marks Honours in Env. Sc. / Microbiology / Botany/ Chemistry/ Zoology/ Physics/ Geography (with a B.Sc degree)/ Geology/ Physiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry and B.Sc.(Agri.) Hons. (10+2+4).
2.Biotechnology: Honours in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Physiology with a minimum of 50% marks having pass subjects like Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physiology.
3.MPEd: Regular B.P.Ed. or B.P.E. course with a minimum of 50% marks. There is no reserved seat for OBC-A and OBC-B candidates in M.P.Ed. Course of Studies.
4.Geospatial Sciences: Honours with Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, Geography, Forestry, Wildlife Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Agriculture, Oceanography, Marine Sciences, Bioinformatics, Fisheries Science with 50% marks in Undergraduate.


5.Women's Studies: Regular Honours Graduates of any recognized University who have done the three-year Hons. Course in History, Pol. Sc., Philosophy, Sociology, Economics and Languages with minimum 50% marks.
6.MLIS: Regular Hons. Graduate with at least 50% of Marks in any subject.
7.Mass Communication: Any Regular Hons. Graduate with at least 50% of Marks. The Candidate must secure minimum 20% marks in PI.
8.MBA Programmes [MBA, MBA (Tourism), MBA (HR)]: Regular Honours Graduates of any recognized University who have done the three-year Hons. Course/B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm./MBBS etc. with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates having valid score card in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT may claim exemption from written test. They may appear in GD and PI directly.
The candidates having no valid score card in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT will have to appear the Written Admission Test positively. The candidates having valid score card in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT may or may not appear in the Written Admission Test and in such cases the higher marks of the candidate, obtained either in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT or in the Written Admission Test to be conducted by The University of Burdwan will be considered. The Candidate must secure minimum 20% marks in GD and PI separately.
In all cases, the merit list will be prepared on the basis of the marks of the candidate obtained in GD and PI and the marks obtained by the candidate either in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT or in the Written Admission Test to be conducted by The University of Burdwan. There are no reserved seats for OBC-Aand OBC-B candidates in MBA Programme.
9.M.A. in Hindusthani Classical Vocal Music and M.A. in Rabindra Sangeet:Honours graduate in Music with a minimum of 50% marks.
10.Statistics: Honours in Statistics or Mathematics with minimum marks of 50%.
11.M.Ed (Fresher): Regular B.Ed. Course with a minimum of 50% marks.
12.LL.M.: Regular 3 Years or 5 Years LL.B. Course with a minimum of 50% marks.
PROCEDURE OF SELECTION:
On the basis of Honours Marks for the Pass outs of B.U. Students
60% of the total intake of seats will be reserved exclusively for the pass-outs from the Under- Graduate Colleges affiliated to the University of Burdwan. Admission to these seats will be offered strictly on the basis of marks secured in the concerned Honours subject. In case of the uniform score in the concerned Honours Degree, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Higher Secondary Examination is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. If the percentage of Higher Secondary marks is also same, percentage of Secondary Examination will be considered for ranking. If, at all these stages, performances of more than one student are found to be same, then final decision regarding selection of candidate will be referred to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BU.
On the basis of Admission Test
Remaining 40% of the seats will be filled up through written admission test from the applicants of the University of Burdwan and the applicants from Other Universities. In case of the uniform marks in the written test, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Honours Degree
is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. In case of the uniform score in the concerned Honours Degree, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Higher Secondary Examination is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. If the percentage of Higher Secondary marks is also being the same, percentage of Secondary Examination will be considered for ranking. If, at all these stages, performances of more than one student are found to be same, then final decision regarding selection of candidate will be referred to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BU.
