Ghawre Bairey Aaj - next film of Aparna Sen

Upcoming film of Aparna Sen, ‘Ghawre Bairey Aaj’ is inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s classic novel ‘Ghawre Bairey’. The poster, on the backdrop of a sociopolitical turmoil, introduces Nikhilesh, Bimala and Sandip played by Anirban Bhattacharya, Tuhina Das and Jisshu Sengupta respectively. 

Anirban Bhattacharya will be seen as Nikhilesh, Jisshu Sengupta will essay the character of Sandip. In Satyajit Ray’s screen adaptation of the same novel, these two roles of Nikhilesh and Sandip were supremely enacted by Victor Banerjee and Soumitra Chatterjee. Young actress Tuhina Das has been cast as Brinda, a modern take on the character Bimala. 

 Anjan Dutt will be seen as Mastarmoshai, which was earlier played by Manoj Mitra in Ray’s film.

Eagoler Chokh Hemanta and Shikari - Box Office Reports of these Bengali films

Three Bengali films - Arindam Shil's Eagoler Chokh, Anjan Dutta's Hemanta and Shikari are released on 12 August. Among the three films, Shikari is targeting the rural audiences while Eagoler Chokh and Hemanta are targeting the multiplexes and cinema halls in urban areas.

Indo-Bangladesh production film Shikari is released in 117 cinema halls. Eagoler Chokh is released in 56 halls and Hemanta will be screened in 40 halls.

Bengali film Saheb Bibi Golam teaser released

Swastika Mukherjee in saheb Bibi Golam

Bengali film Saheb Bibi Golam will be released on 26 August this year and the official teaser of the film is recently released. Swastika Mukherjee, Parno Mitra, Anjan Dutta and Ritwich Chakraborty are in leading role of the film. Vikram Chatterjee is in the role of a rapist in the film.

From the start, the film Saheb Bibi Golam is under controversy. Initially the film was scheduled to be released on 22 January this year but due to troubles with Censor Board, the release of the film is late by 8 months. Censor Board wanted to eliminate the 'Bibi' from title of the film. Censor Board also wanted to 'cut' a rape scene from Saheb Bibi Golam.

Ultimately the length of the rape scene has been reduced and few dialogues from the film Saheb Bibi Golam are supressed with 'rip' sound.

Sabyasachi Chakraborty and Rituparna Sengupta get Mahanayak and Mahanayika Award

West Bengal government on Friday felicitated veteran Bengali film actors Sabyasachi Chakraborty and Rituparna Sengupta with 'Mahanayak' and 'Mahanayika' awards.

Mahanayak Samman awards is held every year in the memory of legendary actor Uttam Kumar to honour actors and actresses in Bengali film industries for their valuable contribution in the industry. This year the awards goes to Rituparna and Sabyasachi.

Veterans actors like Paran Bandyopadhyay, Anjan Dutta, Sandhya Roy, Chiranjeet Chakraborty and director Utpalendu Chakraborty were given lifetime achievement awards for their contributions in Bengali films.

Bengali film Chatuskone and four eminent directors will act in the film

Director acting in films is not very uncommon. In past we have seen many directors acting in his or her own films or in other’s films. Srijit Mukherjee will direct a film titled Chatuskone and four eminent film directors - Aparna Sen, Goutam Ghose, Kaushik Gongopadhyay and Anjan Dutta will act in the film. Initially Rituparno Ghosh was assumed to play an important role in the film Chatuskone but after his sad demise Kaushik Gangopadhyay has been included in the casting of the film. The story of the film, Jani Dekha Hobe takes a twist from this point. Gradually relationship starts building between Megh and Minakshi and on the hand Hiya gets attached to Pat. Megh and Hiya feel that their relationship with Minakshi and Pat is totally unwanted and undesired. They want to come out of it.

 Ultimately Ishwar comes in the picture to save the young lovebirds.
