Legendary Sports Personality Chuni Goswami Passes Away





Legendary sports personality Chuni Goswami passes away at 05:00 PM on April 30, 2020 at a private nursing home at South Kolkata. For the last few months, Chuni Goswami was suffering from underlying ailments with sugar, prostate and nerve problems. Chuni Goswami was admitted to a city hospital earlier in the day and breathed his last at 5 pm after cardiac arrest.

Chuni was not only a footballer, he played cricket in state level and was caption of West Bengal cricket team. Chuni Goswami played tennis in club level. A true Mohan Bagan lover, Chuni played in Mohan Bagan club throughout his football and cricket career. 

After retiring from football, Chuni Goswami concentrated fully on cricket and he was a regular cricketer of West Bengal team in Ranji Trophy. He retired from cricket in 1973.

Place of birth: Kishoreganj, presently in Bangladesh. 


Occupation: A retired football player, he played in the position of striker. As a cricketer, Chuni Goswami was a batsman and swing bowler. Chuni Goswami represented National football team from 1956 to 1964. As a cricketer, Chuni represented West Bengal from 1962 to 1973. 

Death: Chuni Goswami died on April 30, 2020 at 5:00 pm

Pele in Kolkata

Pele, the greatest footballer of all time is in Kolkata now. The King of football arrived Kolkata on Sunday morning. This is the second time the living legend has set his foot in Kolkata, the first visit was in 1977 with Cosmos football team for an exhibition match with Mohun Bagan.
Pele was received by at Kolkata Airport. Among many others two Indian footballers, Chuni Goswami and Dipendu Biswas was present there. Pele will stay at the Taj Bengal hotel and today he will be in complete rest.
On Monday, Pele's day will start with addressing a press conference on behalf of Atletico de Kolkata following which he will meet students of NSHM, a Kolkata college in the afternoon. The main program will be taking place at Netaji Indoor Stadium in the evening where he will meet the players of the Mohun Bagan side that had played against Cosmos in 1977 at the Eden Gardens.
Sourav Ganguly and A.R.Rahman are also expected to be present at the event with Rafael Nadal likely to join on video conference.

Pele may go to 'Chetla Agrani' to inaugurate their Durga Puja pandal.
On Tuesday, Pele will meet the Atletico de Kolkata players before attending the franchise's Indian Super League (ISL) match against Kerala Blasters later in the day.

 Chuni Goswami played for Mohan Bagan team from 1954 to 1968. Before that he was a regular footballer of Mohan Bagan junior team from 1946 to 1954. Chuni Goswami is one of the rarest footballers who played in a single club throughout his football career and he retired from international and club football when he was at the peak of his form. He was caption of Mohan Bagan football team for consecutive five years, from 1960 to 1964.

International career of Chuni Goswami in International Football

First time appearance of Chuni Goswami in Indian football team was in 1956 against Chinese Olympic team and India won that match. Chuni Goswami played for India in 50 international matches. He has represented Indian football team inOlympics, Asian Games, Asia Cup and Merdeka Cup. India football team won Gold Medal in 1962 Asian Games and Chuni was the caption of the Indian football team. In Asia Cup and Merdeka Cup in 1964, Chuni was caption of Indian football team. In Asia Cup 1964, India won silver medal. 

After retiring from football, Chuni Goswami concentrated fully on cricket and he was a regular cricketer og West Bengal team in Ranji Trophy. He retired from cricket in 1973.
