Actress Ridhima Ghosh will portray Sandhya Roy in the film Gungun Kore Mahua

 The shooting of the biographical film Gungun Kore Mahua, inspired by the life of iconic Bengali actress Mahua Roy Chowdhury, is currently in progress. A major highlight of the film is the depiction of veteran actress Sandhya Roy, who is widely considered to have been Mahua’s mentor and a key influence in her career. Actress Ridhima Ghosh will portray Sandhya in the film.


The cast also features Ankita Mallick as Mahua in her later years, while Divyani Mondal will play her younger self. Additionally, Tathagata Mukherjee will take on the role of legendary superstar Uttam Kumar, and Lokenath Dey will portray Mahua’s father.

At the height of her success, Mahua carved out a strong and independent identity in the Bengali film industry. A significant factor behind her growth was Sandhya Roy, who played an instrumental role in guiding and shaping her career. The film will delve into their close professional association as well as the emotional bond they shared.

In a past interview, Sandhya had mentioned that Mahua was not only a talented actress but also an exceptional dancer, despite lacking formal training. Filmmaker Tarun Majumder was particularly impressed by her natural ability, and she underwent a look test for a film at just 13 years of age. It was Tarun Majumder who entrusted Sandhya with the responsibility of mentoring and grooming Mahua.

Actress Sandhya Roy Is Admitted To Hospital

 


Actress Sandhya Roy admitted to hospital on Monday (17 June 2024). The veteran actress suddenly felt discomfort in her chest on Saturday. She had to be admitted to the hospital immediately. According to hospital sources, she has a heart problem. The situation is not stable at all. Treatment is ongoing.

Since admission, the octogenarian actress has undergone ECG, echocardiography, 24-hour Holter monitoring, and relevant blood tests. She is suspected to be suffering from coronary insufficiency.

Sandhya Roy’s assistant told the media that the actress, 79, suddenly felt uneasy and was promptly taken to a hospital. She has to stay for some days in the hospital. All precautions are taken considering her health. 

Sandhya Roy was born in Nabadwip. Her family went to Bangladesh after her birth and came back in 1957. She started acting in the sixties. Maya Mriga, Palatak, Ganadebata, Baghini, Ashani Sanket, Dadar Kirti, Bhrantibilas, Sotya Mithya, and Baba Taraknath are some of her noted films.

Sandhya Roy On Tarun Majumdar's Death

Sandhya Roy forgot to sleep after receiving the news of her husband's illness. Whenever you know, the veteran director will not return, tears did not obey!


Sandhya Roy is crying profusely after the death of Tarun Majumdar. She is crying. The condition of the Tarun Majumdar is critical. As soon as he got the news, he rushed to the hospital. But did not see. The veteran director was in special medical care. Everyone is forbidden to enter there. She said in a tone of regret, "I have not seen him for many days. No words". After that, the veteran actress said, “He went to see the location in Jhargram a few days ago. Because, could not live without work.  What happened suddenly? "

The veteran actress forgot to sleep after receiving the news of her husband's illness. Most of the time Sandhya Roy spent time in her 'Puja Ghar', praying for recovery of her husband. The actress said, "In recent years, we have been living outside a lot. He is in Chennai, Bangalore. I may be in Delhi or Medinipur. So I didn't get a chance to talk or meet at work. 

Tarun Majumdar has played the role of husband, director and guru in the life of Sandhya Roy. Love to work with one. That love is in the bond of deeper satpak. Story of the film

The movie narrates the tragic life story of Roshanbai and how she triumphs over the insensitive society. Roshanbai used to visit the bathing ghat every morning where she could hear the prayers of a brahmin. Roshan fell for him and decided to leave her profession. She wished to start a fresh life with the brahmin. She showered Sohanlal, the agent with money so that he would free her from the profession. One day Roshan pretending to be a destitute brahmin girl won the brahmin’s attention and he gave her shelter. She was content with her new life at the brahmin’s place. One day the brahmin proposed marriage to her. After marriage, Rposhan lived happily with the brahmin though they were extremely poor. One day Sohanlal disclosed Roshan’s past to the brahmin. The brahmin was shocked at Roshan’s deed of treacherously marrying him and left her forever. Sohanlal was successful in his wicked endeavour to take back Roshan for the prostitution business. Roshan tried to commit suicide but stopped herself as she was pregnant and wanted to bring up her child fighting all her adversities. She earned money by continuing her profession to bring up her child. Finally, we get to see that Roshan’s son becomes a doctor signaling the victory for Roshan.

Sandhya Roy as Roshanbai is excellent in this film.

Story of the film

A man Basanta who couldn't stand bounds and chains bitten by wanderlust. In spite of the fact that he hailed from a rich Zamindari family and could have lived in comfort, his wanderlust took him to newer and different places where he encountered new people and mingled with their lives. He marries a woman Harimati and returns home to his family with his wife. But after few days unaware of the fact that his wife is pregnant, he leaves her to go on another journey

Story of the film

A woman named Sheba Mitra comes to a remote hill town, Nijhumgarh to be the governess of girl child Ranu. Shankar Roy, the owner of the almost haunted bungalow called Raykuthi. Ranu is his only child. Sheba came to know everything is going mysterious surrounding her. She tried to know the history about the Bungalow and the dwellers and started investigation secretly. Old family friend Dr. Choudhury and Shankar's cousine Satyabhusan were very much related with the family. Sheba suddenly knew that two murders took place there nearly seven years earlier. She watched that mysterious incidents are happening. A lady like Shankar's deceased wife sings and walks in the adjacent jungle almost every night to attract the girl child and his father Shankar. Now Sheba could only pray for it to Go Away as incidents transcend the rules of our physical world. It revealed that the main culprit is one very close and trusted to the family.

Story of the film

Hirendranath Ganguly or Hiru who lives in Kolkata comes to his aunt's house after his F.A. examination. There he meets a simple girl named Kumudini. She has lost her father. She and her mother stay in her uncle's house. Kumudini takes the uncle's goat for grazing in the field and sells the milk of goats. Everyone in the village loves her. Kumudini has a great intimacy with Sabitri, the daughter of village doctor named Dasarath Chatterjee. The village postmaster (Dayal) teaches Kumudini. Kumudini proposed the name of Hiru as a bridegroom of Sabitri. But gradually Kumu and Hiru come in close contact with each other .Dayal gives the proposal of Sabitri's marriage to Hiru to Kumudini's uncle. But Kumudini's uncle refused it as Hiru did not have the necessary social status. Hiru returns to the town with a broken heart. Then he manages a job in Rail at Jamalpur. There the boiler inspector Jatinbabu displays a great affection towards him. One day the boiler Inspector died in an accident. Before his death he informs Hiru that he is loaded with debt and gives him the responsibility of his ambitious daughter, Surama. Hiru gets married to her. But she is not satisfied with the domestic affairs. She expresses her problem to Hiru. Then Hiru resigns the railway job and leaves Jamalpur. After that he shifts to Munger and starts a business, He becomes a rich person by the dint of hard labour and intelligence. But he cannot give time and love to his wife. At that time his aunt writes a letter to him to take her to his house. Reaching there he comes to know that the husband of Kumudini is indifferent to her. Hiru wants to take Kumudini to him, but Kumudini does not agree to go. Then Hiru goes away and Kumudini looks at him with tearful eyes.

Another master piece film of Sandhya Roy. Sandhya Roy is Kumudini in this film.

Story of the film

Gangacharan, an educated Brahmin, has arrived to settle in the village with his wife, Ananga, a sensitive woman, giving and devoted to her husband. The distant World War II changes the village. Gangacharan is only little more informed than the villagers. As a few aeroplanes disturb the peaceful sky, the word goes around that the war will result in a scarcity of rice and as a result the price of rice soars. To eat, the villagers are reduced to animal-like existence, forced to beg for food. Ananga offers to work for food and she goes to work with other village women. Ananga along with Chutki goes to the forest to look for wild potatoes. A man tries to take Ananga. Chutki kills the man with the bar she used to dig potatoes. An untouchable-caste woman dies for hunger; the first starvation death in the village. Gangacharan, breaking the taboo, give her a proper cremation. Even as we learn that Ananga is pregnant, we see the villagers leave in search of food in silhouettes. The screen is filled with a statement - Over five million died of starvation and epidemics in Bengal in what has come to be known as the man-made famine of 1943.

Story of the film

Fuleswari is a Bengali romance drama film directed by Tarun Majumdar[1] based on a story of Bibhutibhushan Mukhopadhyay. Fuleswari, a young woman, falls in love with Brindaban, who arrives in her village. She plans to marry him but is hesitant when she learns that Brindaban is involved in a crime.

Story of the film

Amar (Biswajit) is a scientist who wants to invent a new drug from snake's poison along with Sudha (Sandhya Roy), a fellow researcher. They get married but the Gurudev of Amar's family predicts that Amar will die within a year. The only way he can escape death is that Sudha has to leave him. Amar can not accept this news and one day, devoted to his research he gets bit by a snake. Sudha is a worshipper of Lord Shiva and goes to Tarakeshwar and challenges God to return her husband to her. Happy ending film.

This film, rather Sudha (Sandhya Roy) set the craze among young generation for going to Tarakeshwar Shiva temple carrying water during Shravan month. Sandhya Roy is outstanding in this film.

Ganadevata (1978)



Sandhya Roy portrayed the role of Durga in this film.

Durga is one of the interesting characters of the story, with grey shades of honesty, kindness, cunning and empathy. Moneylender Chhiru Pal taking advantage of Durga at night. Durga is a bold woman, living by herself and secretly twisting the course of events for the greater good.


Dadar Kirti (1980)




A Tarun Majumdar block buster hit movie and Sandhya Roy played the role of sister-in-law in this movie. Although this film is famous for beginning of Mahua - Tapas pair still Sandhya Roy played a pivotal role.

Rose Valley scam and Top Tollywood actress

Who is the top Tollywood Bengali films actress involved in Rose Valley scam? Is she linked with any political party? It is expected that very soon we will come to know about the actress.

Latest hot news in Rose Valley scam and Tollywood is that a top Tollywood actress had allegedly enabled transactions worth Rs 350 crore from a Singapore-based firm through Hawala channels for Rose Valley.

It is said that the actress went with prime accused and Rose Valley owner Gautam Kundu on several foreign trips and enabled him to buy and sell several Bengali films. The actress will soon be summoned by the CBI for interrogation.

A source said “Movements of the actress were closely monitored for the past three years. All the evidences proving her involvement in the scam were carefully knit together to make the case fool-proof, considering the mass following and political clout of the actress.”

Tollywood actresses like Sandhya Roy, Shatabdi Roy are Trinamool Congress MPs and Debashree Roy is Trinamool Congress MLA. 

Another top Bengali actress is Rituparna Sengupta, although she is not directly involved in politics but she has a connection with Singapore. Rituparna Sengupta's husband, Sanjay Chakraborty resides in Singapore. It is heard that CBI will summon one top Bengali Tollywood actress in connection with Rose Valley scam and rumour is that the actress's husband resides in Singapore. Sources close to the CBI revealed that  the actress enabled transactions worth 350 crore from a Singapore-based firm through hawala channels for Rose Valley. As soon as the actress got the news that CBI is getting ready to summon her, she is planning to leave India. CBI has taken the appropriate steps so that Visa is not granted to the actress. CBI has informed all the airports in the country with the passport number of the actress so that the actress can not leave the country.

Latest update is that CBI is keeping close watch on three Tollywood actresses related to Rose Valley scam. One is a top Bengali actress with Singapore link, the second actress is also a popular actress of Bengali films. The second actress has worked mainly in second lead roles in films and the third actress works both in Tollywood and Bollywood. It is also said that the third actress has recently joined a political party.

Another Bengali actress is expected to be linked with Rose Valley scam. The actress is known for acting in bold scenes in both Bengali and Bollywood films. The unmarried actress is supposed to tie the knot this year and her would be husband resides in other state.

Sabyasachi Chakraborty and Rituparna Sengupta get Mahanayak and Mahanayika Award


West Bengal government on Friday felicitated veteran Bengali film actors Sabyasachi Chakraborty and Rituparna Sengupta with 'Mahanayak' and 'Mahanayika' awards.
Mahanayak Samman awards is held every year in the memory of legendary actor Uttam Kumar to honour actors and actresses in Bengali film industries for their valuable contribution in the industry. This year the awards goes to Rituparna and Sabyasachi.
Veterans actors like Paran Bandyopadhyay, Anjan Dutta, Sandhya Roy, Chiranjeet Chakraborty and director Utpalendu Chakraborty were given lifetime achievement awards for their contributions in Bengali films.
Music composer Shantanu Moitra received a special award.

Divorce and Bengali film actresses



Divorce is very common in case of Bengali film actresses. Many actresses whose life style is so sober and there is no information of any kind of extra maritial relationship between the actress and somebody else, still divorce happens in Tollywood.

Sandhya Roy is a mother like figure in Bengali film industry. The lady with a god gifted beauty was married to filmmaker Tarun Majumdar. Tarun Majumdar, popular as Tanu babu in his own circle is an eminent film director. Tarun Majumder and Sandhya Roy are not husband wife now.

Debashree Roy is in the glamour world from her childhood. Debashree Roy was married to her long time boyfriend Prosenjit Chatterjee in year 1992. At that time they were considered as made for each other celebrity couple but their married life ended with divorce in year 1995. After the divorce, Prosenjit married Aparna Guhathakurta in 1997 and they took divorce on 2002 and the third marriage of Prosenjit is with Arpita Pal in 2002. Debashree Roy is still single.

Bengali actress - then and now



Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjee was married to Promit Sen in 1998. Promit Sen is the son of renowned Rabindrasangeet exponent Sagar Sen.  The marriage ended with high drama in court room. Swastika is now living her own life with her daughter.

In year 2013, Sreelekha Mitra took separation from her husband. Sreelekha Mitra and her ex-husband have a daughter who is now staying with her mother.


In early '90s Bengali actress Roopa Ganguly got married with Dhruba Mukherjee, a Mechanical Engineer. Roopa and Dhruba have a son, Akash. Roopa Ganguly was very much unhappy in her married life and she tried to kill herself thrice. In 2007, Rupa Ganguly and Dhruva Mukherjee started to live separately and in January 2009 Rupa Ganguly divorced Dhruba Mukherjee.



The latest addition is the divorce of young Bengali actress Srabanti Chatterjee. Srabanti’s lawyer has send divorce letter to Rajib Biswas – Srabanti’s director husband. Srabanti and Rajib have a son of nine years old who is staying with his mother.
