Tourist place Baranti at Muradi


Many places of West Bengal are still unknown to other parts of the state inspite of beautiful green landscape, hills. Baranti is such a place in Purulia district but the area has all the natural resources to attract tourists. Baranti is ideal for Eco-Tourism. In this post, I will discuss about the main attractions of Baranti, how to reach and where to stay at Baranti.



Baranti is a small village at Muradi in Purulia district of West Bengal. Muradi is not a familiar name in West Bengal. People residing at Asansol, Burnpur know that name but how many people residing at Durgapur know Muradi is a big question. People who want to get away from the monotonous city or town life for a while can visit Baranti.


In Baranti we find both rocks and green which makes the landscape much more picturesque. In one side of Baranti there is a hilly range and on the other side there is a huge water reservoir and a dam. The water reservoir is used for irrigation purpose and drinking water to the local villages. The area is surrounded with trees like Sal, Mahua, Piyal, Palash etc. Gorongi Hill in Baranti is a trekking point Moving around the villages near Baranti may be a unique experience for the tourists. Moving around the villages on foot through the jungles will refresh the mind of tourists. Deer, wild boars, wolves live in the denser part of the forests. Climbing any nearby hill and from there viewing the tribal villages may be an experience for tourists.

Sunset in Baranti is worth seeing. The best time to visit Baranti is between October and March.  During winter, migratory birds come in Baranti. Birds watcher can visit this calm and quite place in this time.

How to reach Baranti – transport services


By road one can reach Baranti through Durgapur Express way. The route is as follows: Asansol - Desergarh Bridge – Sarbori More (Barakar – Purulia Road) – Subhas More – Kotaldih Village-Ramchandra Pur Village - Muradi Village – Baranti.

By train, from Asansol EMU trains towards Purulia / Adra station has stoppage at Muradi Station. From Muradi station, Baranti is just 6 km away. Local transport systems including car, rickshaw are available from Muradi station.
