In 2021 West Bengal assembly election, Sital Kapat of BJP won Ghatal assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Shankar Dolui of Trinamool Congress. Sital Kapat got 1,05,812 votes, Shankar Dolui got 104,846 votes.

In 2016 West Bengal assembly election, Shankar Dolai of Trinamool Congress won Ghatal assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Kamal Chandra Dolui of CPI (M). Shankar Dolai got 1,07,682 votes, Kamal Chandra Dolui got 88,203 votes.

In 2011 West Bengal assembly election, Shankar Dolai of Trinamool Congress won Ghatal assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Chhabi Pakhira of CPI (M). Shankar Dolai got 101,355 votes, Chhabi Pakhira got 85,078 votes and Ashok Malik of BJP got 4,584 votes.
