Bengali writer Ramapada Chowdhury was admitted to Belle Vue Clinic on July 20 with old age ailments including lung problem. He died of cardiac arrest on 29 July at 6:30 PM.
Ramapada Chowdhury will be remembered for ever for his so many novels and short stories. Many of the famous films are based on novels of Ramapada Chowdhury. Ramapada Chowdhury's novel ‘Abhimanyu’ was based on the life and work of Dr Subhas Mukhopadhyay who created India’s first and the world’s second test-tube baby in 1978. Director Tapan Sinha made award winning Hindi film ‘Ek doctor ki maut’ in 1990 which was based on the novel ‘Abhimanyu’. Mrinal Sen’s Hindi film ‘Ek din achanak’ (1989) was also based on Ramapada Chowdhury’s story ‘Beej’. The other famous films based on Ramapada Chowdhury's works are ‘Pratham Prahar’ (1954), ‘Banpalashir Padabali’ (1960), ‘Ekhoni’ (1969), ‘Kharij’, ‘Bari Badle Jay’ (1988).
Ramapada Chowdhury was born in 1922 in Kharagpur. In Calcutta, he stayed at an apartment on Prince Anwar Shah Road. Ramapada Chowdhury's last written novel is Harano Khata, a memoir, one-and-a-half years back.
