Gopal Bose came into national reckoning, after scoring 170 in Irani Trophy for Rest of India against Bombay. During the first half of 70's, Sunil Gavaskar had no steady opening partner in test cricket but due to unknown reasons, Gopal Bose failed to become partner of Sunil Gavaskar. He did not get chance in test matches but played an ODI for India. He was later chosen for the home series against West Indies, but didn't make the first 11. He was never picked for India later.
