Legendary folk song singer Amar Pal is no more with us. The 98 years old singer died today at SSKM Hospital, Kolkata at about 5.30 PM. The singer died due to brain hemorrhage.
Amar Pal was born on 19 May 1922 and his birth place, Brahmanbaria is now in Bangladesh. Father of Amar Pal was Mahesh Chandra Pal and mother was Durga Sundari Pal. Putul Rani Pal was Amar Pal's wife who died many years ago.
First playback singing of Amar Pal was in film Hirak Rajar Deshe by Satyajit Ray. Amar Pal did playback on films of Debaki Kumar Basu and Rituparno Ghosh.
The West Bengal Government conferred Sangeet Mahasamman on him in 2012 for his outstanding contribution in the field of music. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condoled Amar Pal’s death.
