Anup Ghoshal Is No More - Passed Away On 15 December 2023

 Singer and former Trinamool MLA Anup Ghoshal passed away. He was 78 at the time of his death. The singer breathed his last at a private hospital in South Kolkata around 1.30 pm on Friday. He was hospitalized for a long time. He finally died of heart disease on Friday.


The singer breathed his last at his home in Kolkata on Friday. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief after hearing the news of his death. He wrote, “Anup Ghosal's demise is an irreparable loss to the music world. My sincere condolences to Anup Ghoshal's relatives and fans."

Anup Ghoshal performed music in Satyajit Ray's films like Gupi Gain Bagha Bain, Hirak Rajar Deshe. The song that fans still haven't forgotten. Basically, he received immense appreciation in the music world for Nazrul Geeti and Shyama Sangeet. Apart from this, the artist has rendered music for films in various languages ​​including Bengali, Hindi. The audience did not forget his song in the film 'Sagina Mahato' directed by Tapan Sinha. It is heard that the singer died due to old age.

Anup Ghoshal joined the 'Political Change' movement at the end of the leftist era. In 2011, Mamata Banerjee nominated him for the assembly elections. He won as a first-time candidate from Uttarpara assembly seat in Hooghly. But Trinamool did not give him ticket after that. The singer had no special contact with politics. West Bengal Government awarded Anup Ghoshal 'Nazrul Smriti Award' in 2011 and 'Sangeet Mahasamman' in 2013.

Anup Ghoshal was 100% family man. He was offered many songs in Bollywood but rejected as he had to stay there leaving his wife and daughters in Kolkata.

Anup Ghoshal has been offered Honorary Citizen of Chicago in 1994 by Mayor Richard M. Daley, as well as other awards.
