Eminent Filmmaker of Bollywood Subhash Ghai is set to release his first Bengali film Nouka dubi on 6th May 2011, just one day before 25 Baisakh. Subhash Ghai has presented many memorable films to Bollywood. Nouka dubi is the first venture of Mukta Searchlight Films in Bengali film industry. Story of this film is based on a short story of Rabindranath Tagore.
Story of the film-Nouka dubi
The time period of the film is 1920s. This is a love film with lot of events, conflicts. Ramesh, a law student felt in love with his friend’s sister Hemnalini but to some extend was forced by circumstances to marry another girl Susheela from his village. After marriage Ramesh and his bride set out on a river boat journey back to Kolkata where Ramesh was studying.
Hemnalini knows nothing about this marriage. She knows that Ramesh has to go to his village home for some urgent work and will come back soon.
The boat capsizes in the river due to heavy storm. The couples were separated and later in the night Ramesh finds himself in a deserted shore. He finds a bride in the unconscious form and mistakes her as his Susheela. They take a train to Kolkata.
In Kolkata, Ramesh gradually comes to know the actual fact. The lady is not Susheela, she is Kamala. On that nouka dubi night she was traveling with her husband Dr. Nalinaksha Chatterjee. Ramesh tries to trace out Dr. Nalinaksha Chatterjee and puts Kamala into a boarding school. In the mean time the story of the film takes a turn. Akshay, Hemnalini’s would be suitor comes to know every thing and informs Hemnalini. Helpless Ramesh goes to Gorakhpur with Kamala for hiding. A devastated Hemnalini goes to Kashi with her father for a change. Dr. Nalinaksha Chatterjee and his bride Kamala were set to go Kashi but the nouka dubi separated them. In Kashi Hemnalini meets Nalinaksha and a new relationship starts.
On the other side, Kamala finds the advertisement to find out Nalinaksha in an old newspaper. Ramesh did it during the days in Kolkata. Kamala, unable to bear the storm in her mind decides to commit suicide, left a suicide note and moves towards a river. On returning home, Ramesh finds the suicide note, searches Kamala everywhere. Kamala was rescued by a courtesan and she reached Nalinaksha’s house at Kashi with his help. At Kashi the couple met. The advertisement piece of paper from Kamala brings the whole truth in light. Ramesh also arrives Nalinaksha’s house.

Meanwhile producer Shubhash Ghai has dubbed ‘Nouka Dubi’ in Hindi as ‘Kashmakash’ and the Hindi version will be released on the same date as Bengali version ‘Nouka Dubi’.
