One of the famous Shiya Muslim pilgrimage centre in West Bengal, the famous Imambara of Hooghly is situated at the bank of the Ganges. It is very close to Hooghly railway station. This Imambara was started in 1841 by the famous Bengali educationist and philanthropist Haji Muhammud Mahasin and was completed on 1861. The Imambara is a two storied building and has a mosque and a graveyard near it. Grave of Haji Mohammad Mahasin is there.
The mosque is at the north side of the Imambara and at the south direction the enclosed graveyard. There is a beautiful prayer hall, Jari Dalan inside the Imambara. During Muharram people of all faiths gather here.
How to reach Hooghly Imambara
Hooghly is well connected through Indian railway service. Hooghly railway station is in the main line. Any Burdwan bound local trains stop at Hooghly railway station. Bandel locals, Pandua locals also pass through Hooghly station.
